I thought that all of these 1TB E12 drives were double-sided (which would make sense if they are all using the same hardware and firmware, just branded differently).Ĭurious as I'm seriously thinking about replacing the 512GB Toshiba NVMe in my Precision 5510 and I'm not sure if a double sided drive can fit.

Prior to this, their SSD/nvme drives were all I ever purchased. NewEgg was AWESOME as always in taking care of me, just wish Samsung hadn't sunk to the levels that other drive makers seem to be doing these days, or at the least, had been open and up front about it. As such, I returned the drive and got a WD Black. Unfortunately, literally the day after I got it, it was announced that Samsung had secretly changed the part number (Only visible after opening the box) and the new part, due to supply shortages, falls FAR below the original part's performance on large sustained file copies, which is something I do frequently. It's consistently been rated the fastest gen 3 drive around. Not a big deal given my system was limited to pcie3. Overall Review: So i finally took the plunge and got this drive for a previous gen system knowing it was limited to pcie 3 unlike the newer gen 4 drives. So far I'm loving this drive and I have no problem recommending it. And I had no trouble at all since I just used the Optimized Defaults.

Windows had no trouble finding and using this drive. 10 minutes later I was dotting the i's and crossing the t's. My faith was well placed.ĪSUS, Samsung and Windows got together and worked their magic. So I installed the newest BIOS file, restored the "Optimized Defaults" (which included an AMI native NVMe driver), stuck in my Windows USB stick, rebooted and let it rip. If they saw fit not to advise me on using this drive I probably didn't need any such advice.

Since my ASUS motherboard is reasonably new (oldest BIOS dated 2-23-2018), and since the mobo manual said nothing about tweaking the BIOS for an NVMe drive (It is a pretty skimpy manual), I decided to place my bets on ASUS. The one constant was that the newer the advice the fewer and simpler were the suggestions offered. I found lots of conflicting advice such as: "Enable CSM", "Don't enable CSM", "Turn off Secure Boot", "Don't turn off Secure Boot", etc. Much of the available advice is a couple of years old or more and is already obsolete.
